Two weeks in Thailand – The Honeymoon

To be entirely honest, I was so tired, I barely remember landing in Phuket. I vaguely recall looking from the plane window to see the crystal green-blue waters of the Andaman sea, and being mesmerized by the rock formations coming up out of the water, islands so different than what we typically see here. What I DO

In The News: Beyonce teases fans with ‘big annoucement,’ talks vegan diet – NY Daily News

April 1, 2022 0 Comments

I am awful at staying on top of celeb news. I actually hadn’t heard about Beyonce’s vegan diet, maybe because there is always the next latest and greatest thing with her (does anyone remember the maple syrup, cayenne pepper and lemon something or another?!)

It appears this particular diet will stick around, given that her and Jay-Z reportedly own shares in the 22 Day Revolution. While I have nothing against veganism, choosing to pursue it as weight loss strategy is NOT the right reason to become a vegan.

Does anyone else throw up a little when she, in one interview says she has to set a positive example for her daughter, while in the next breath reports that when she deprives (DEPRIVES!?) her self of food, the weight stays off.

Role modelling healthy eating and a positive relationship with food is SO important. I really and truly believe that you can never get off the diet roller coaster if you don’t first start with developing a healthy relationship with food. There are no ‘good’ foods and ‘bad’ foods. There are no ‘forbidden’ foods. Everything can fit in a healthy diet. It’s learning to listen to and trust your body. It’s a skill that takes practice when you haven’t done it in a while.

Ellyn Satter is the BOMB when it comes to describing a healthy relationship with food. In her definition, normal eating is this:

Normal eating is going to the table hungry and eating until you are satisfied. It is being able to choose food you like and eat it and truly get enough of it -not just stop eating because you think you should. Normal eating is being able to give some thought to your food selection so you get nutritious food, but not being so wary and restrictive that you miss out on enjoyable food. Normal eating is giving yourself permission to eat sometimes because you are happy, sad or bored, or just because it feels good. Normal eating is mostly three meals a day, or four or five, or it can be choosing to munch along the way. It is leaving some cookies on the plate because you know you can have some again tomorrow, or it is eating more now because they taste so wonderful. Normal eating is overeating at times, feeling stuffed and uncomfortable. And it can be undereating at times and wishing you had more. Normal eating is trusting your body to make up for your mistakes in eating. Normal eating takes up some of your time and attention, but keeps its place as only one important area of your life.

In short, normal eating is flexible. It varies in response to your hunger, your schedule, your proximity to food and your feelings.

While The Ellyn Satter institute defines normal eating, putting it into practice, especially if this is not ‘how you roll’ can be a challenge.

Thats why I can’t wait to TEACH you, in my upcoming e-book : 28 Days to a Healthier You- A Nutrition Guide for Those on the Go – how to implement these principles in your life, and regain confidence to lose weight, without giving up the things you love!

(Hello, 22 Day Revolution – vegan, with no soy and no gluten!)

Sorry Beyonce, you get an F today in being a positive role model for healthy eating – the word deprive doesn’t fit.… Read the rest
